Movement Guide
Movement is the single biggest skill gap in Deadlock. The difference between a player who walks to fights and one who flows to them is enormous.

Most heroes have 3 stamina pips (shown near your crosshair). Stamina is spent on:
Stamina regenerates over time. Items like Extra Stamina (+1 pip) and Sprint Boots (faster sprint) can reshape your movement options significantly.
Sprint to full speed, dash in your travel direction, then jump the instant the dash fires. Done right, you launch forward at huge speed. The timing window is tight — watch for your stamina pips flashing blue mid-dash: that's the game's visual cue for the jump window. If you keep getting a plain jump, you're pressing too late.
Practice it on the walk to lane where a miss costs nothing. Once it's automatic, chain a second dash-jump the moment you land.
Sliding is free — it costs no stamina, maintains momentum, and grants unlimited ammo while you're sliding. You need to be moving faster than roughly 9 m/s to start one on flat ground (sources disagree on the exact number) (a dash, sprint items, or a downhill slope will do it). A downhill slide builds speed for nothing; slide-jumping off the bottom converts all of it into a launch for the price of one jump.
One quirk: you can't jump out of a slide that started from a ground dash — but slides from air-dashes and dash-jumps can jump freely, which is why dash-jump into slide-jump is the core speed chain.
This is how you move fast without draining stamina — the key to arriving at fights with pips to spare.
Ziplines run down each lane. Riding one costs no stamina and builds speed on its own. Jump off to launch that momentum a huge distance, then add one dash to steer. This is the most stamina-efficient long rotation in the game.
Use zipline launches to gank or reposition, and you'll land with pips banked while your opponent is tapped out. You can also boost a zipline ride (press F) for a big burst of speed to mid-map (long cooldown — save it for when it matters).
Jump against a wall to bounce off it with extra height. If you're close to a ledge, you'll mantle up automatically — the game gives you a little forgiveness on climbs. Chain wall jumps to scale buildings and reach rooftops.
Light melee is a quick strike. Hold it for a heavy melee — slower, but deals big damage and carries forward momentum (useful for reaching heights).
Press F to parry. A well-timed parry blocks a melee and stuns the attacker. Parrying is a hard read — miss it and you eat the full hit. Parrying cancels your dash and its momentum — use it to bait or to brake, but don't parry while you're trying to escape. In melee range, the parry mind-game decides fights.
The real magic is combining mechanics organically. A basic sequence: dash into a slide (conserves stamina, keeps you mobile and hard to hit). More advanced: zipline launch → dash to steer → slide on landing → slide-jump → wall jump to a rooftop.
Add hero-specific movement abilities, stamina items, and map features like air vents (which launch you forward), and the map becomes a playground. Rooftop chases and mid-fight repositioning are where Deadlock feels unlike anything else.
The map itself is movement tech. Learn these and the city starts working for you.
Step on a vent and it launches you along the direction of the airflow — treat them as rotation speed boosts. Chain a vent launch into a dash-jump and you cross the map shockingly fast. Certain heroes can even ride vents down into the underground tunnels.
Ropes on and inside buildings give quick vertical climbs to rooftops and mid-levels — the fastest way up when a wall jump won't reach. Learn where the ropes are on your lane and you always have an escape route upward.
Not to be confused with air vents: stand on a steam vent and you're concealed from enemy heroes (they can't see you or hit you with hero-targeted abilities), with a small health regen boost. They're ambush and reset tools — break line of sight, step on, and the enemy loses you. Dealing or taking damage breaks the concealment. Full details on the map page.
How far you can ride a zipline depends on how far your troopers have pushed — the line only runs over territory your team controls. Winning the lane literally extends your highway, and losing it shortens your rotations. Another reason to keep the wave pushed.
| Item | What It Does | When to Buy |
|---|---|---|
Extra Stamina | +1 stamina pip, faster regen | Almost always good early — more dodges, more tech |
Sprint Boots | +2 m/s sprint speed, faster out-of-combat health regen | Rotations, getting to fights faster, running away better |
Enduring Speed | +2 m/s move speed, 25% slow resist | On fragile heroes that die the moment they get slowed |
Kinetic Dash | Fire rate + bonus ammo for up to 7s after dash-jumping | Once your dash-jump timing is consistent |
Stamina Mastery | +2 stamina pips, 18% faster regen, 23% air jump/dash distance; a second air jump and air dash before landing | Late game, when you want maximum aerial freedom |
